Built in two phases in 1940 and 1958, Markham Lutheran Church has a convoluted layout and many stairs. To our regret, the congregation has never had the budget to install an elevator or other features that would make the building accessible and therefore, truly welcoming, to all people.

Main entrance on 160th St. (southeast side of building): Via the canopied porch of the "new church", built in 1958 (pictured at top and first picture below), there are chairlifts up to the narthex and nave (sanctuary) & down to the social hall. The ushers will be happy to help you. Accessible bathrooms are located in the lobby of the social hall. The parent and child room with a single bathroom is located off the narthex. If no family is using the quiet room, the small connecting bathroom is open to everyone. Free parking, including spaces reserved for those with disabled parking permits, is available in the lot on the east side of the church, closest to the southeast entry. There is a step up onto the porch and one into the vestibule to reach the chair lifts.

West entrance: If you do not need the chairlifts and prefer to park on the west or north side of the church, you can enter via the doors midway along the west side of the building, seen in the second picture below. You will find yourself in the lobby of the office wing of the church. As a visitor unfamiliar with the building, the quickest, easiest way for you to reach the nave is via the sacristy. Go through the doors to your right. On your left you will see stairs going down to the social hall. Straight ahead, climb four stairs to the sacristy. The door is usually open, and if Pastor or the altar guild is in there, they won't mind (they normally finish preparing for the service early). Use the door to your left, which opens onto the front of the nave beside the elevated pulpit. Between the First Sunday of Advent through Epiphany (early January) when the Christmas tree is up, or at any other time if you prefer this route: Go downstairs, turn right into the main room of the social hall, cross to the lobby (accessible bathrooms are there), and climb the stairs to the main vestibule. Another flight of stairs will take you to the narthex and nave.
